Chris Voss
Chris is a seasoned expert in international crises and high-stakes negotiations, renowned for developing the Black Swan Method®, a comprehensive negotiation training program that applies globally tested techniques to various business scenarios. Before 2008, he served as the FBI’s lead international kidnapping negotiator and represented the agency on the National Security Council’s Hostage Working Group. He also represented the U.S. government at G8-sponsored conferences focusing on kidnapping. Before taking on this pivotal role, Chris was the lead Crisis Negotiator for the FBI’s New York City division, where he handled several high-profile cases, including negotiating the first hostage surrender in the Chase Manhattan Bank robbery. He served on the Joint Terrorist Task Force for 14 years, managing critical cases such as the Omar Abdel-Rahman trial and the TWA Flight 800 disaster. Throughout his 24-year career with the FBI, Chris received training from prestigious institutions like Scotland Yard and Harvard Law School, earning accolades such as the Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement. In academia, Chris has taught negotiation in MBA programs at USC’s Marshall School of Business and Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business. He has also lectured at esteemed institutions like Harvard and Kellogg. Since 2009, Chris has been the Managing Director of Insite Security’s Kidnapping Resolution Practice, enhancing his impact in crisis management and negotiation.
